It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is the first day of October! The weather has changed considerably here in the mountain of Western North Carolina. We had to close all the windows and get out our sweaters this week. We didn’t hesitate to take the opportunity to cook up a big Silit pot of vegetarian chili and our youngest daughter convinced me to warm up the kitchen by baking some of our favorite Chef Tom’s Vegan Brownies! Tom created this recipe with our daughter, Autumn when she was about 12 years old. Autumn was giving cooking classes with us for kids in the community called “Kids in the Kitchen.” We had several “Brownie” level Girl Scout groups take our classes and this brownie recipe was always a hit!

The genetic engineering of our food is a great concern. We wanted to share the latest petition and website for genetically engineered salmon by the Center for Food Safety that is focused on the pending approval and labeling of genetically engineered salmon.

Just Say No! to Genetically Engineered Salmon

The FDA has scheduled a public hearing on the approval of AquaBounty’s AquaAdvantage, GE Atlantic salmon. Visit CFS’s new site www.ge-fish.org  to learn more about this important food issue, sign the petition, read scientific articles on GE salmon and other genetically engineered fish and learn what other actions that you can take to protect our food and environment from genetic manipulation.

Natural Lifestyle Customers are the best ever! 
I closed up the Natural Lifestyle office this evening after talking to the sweetest customer. When I hung up the phone I started to thinking about all the customers who I had talked to or the phone or corresponded with throughout the week and realized that we have the nicest customers in the whole entire world! One customer even ask me to promise that we would never go out of business because she can’t get healthy, organic products where she lives. 

Tom and I started Natural Lifestyle Mail-Order Market twenty-one years ago for that very reason. We were teaching cooking and natural living classes and people would travel for hours to to attend. When they would return home they would call us and ask where they could buy natural and organic whole foods by mail because their local stores didn’t carry any. I offered to shop for them and mail them their healthy products. This started to happen over and over until we decided to put together a catalog and become an official mail-order service.

Our mission was to supply the finest, natural and organic products that we believe to be healthy for our customers and for our planet. What a wonderful twenty-one years it has been for our family business thanks to our amazing customers!

Finally ... you can now carry your water or sencha tea in one of the healthiest containers of all ~ glass. Best of all the glass is made in France, the caps are made in Italy and the the sleeves in Poland. (No China made here... so many of our customers do not trust China made products anymore!) 

The bottles come with colorful silicone sleeves to help keep from slipping and colorful matching caps. We will have them on display at the Organicfest this September 11th in downtown Asheville!
